ECOPOWER 900 TEMPERATURE PROGRAMING CONTROL
SIMPLE CONTROL OPTIONS:
The ecoPOWER 900 hybrid ventilator with its massive 10,000 m³/hr capacity in power mode and typical 3,000m³/hr exhaust rate in natural or wind mode (rate varies depending on stack height and atmospheric conditions) can be controlled between natural and wind mode operations using a simple manual switch to control power or by use of in-line digital control devices that control power to the ecoPOWER motor. Typically these include in-line thermostats, humidistats, VOC monitors, CO2 monitors and anemometers. All of these devices simply control operation between natural and mechanical modes. And when mechanical mode is activated the product moves to its set maximum speed of rotation (maximum set point designed to ensure motor does not exceed its temperature cut out point).
For many applications the simple methods described above are sufficient. ecoPOWER 900 is highly energy efficient in power mode moving some 45m³/watt under no wind and further improving as wind speed accelerates. However, once mechanical mode is activated the ecoPOWER 900 automatically moves to maximum exhaust of 10,000m³/hr regardless of whether there is the instantaneous need, or maybe desire, for this level of air exchange
VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL:
The custom designed ecoPOWER 900 motor supplied by ebm (Germany) is an electronic commutating motor with integrated variable speed capability as directed by the addition of a programmable temperature sensor. The sensor is not a standard feature of the motor and is purchased as an accessory.
The sensor is typically programmed by Edmonds to suit the agreed control temperature required for each vent or bank of vents. For example, if an ecoPOWER 900 integrated temperature sensor is set at say 25°C (as measured by the temperature in the throat of the ventilator) then the motor speed will gradually increase as ambient temperature increases in an effort to maintain 25°C. This continues until maximum set speed is reached.
The benefits of incorporating the programmable temperature sensor are:
1. It allows zone programming of vents i.e. zone 1 may be programmed to maintain 23°C, zone 2 to maintain 26°C etc.
2. Flow rate of the vents suits the conditions.
3. The vents are in effect reacting continuously to variable ambient conditions.
4. Variable speed operation further improves the energy efficiency of ecoPOWER 900.
The current draw is proportional to the flow rate need.
For maintenance and up dating of the programming of the ecoPOWER it is advisable at the time of wiring power to also run a communications cable back to a common communications cabinet with identification of each unit (i.d. number). CSR Edmonds has licensed software and can attend and alter the programming for any number of ecopOWER 900s. Suitable software for customers to operate is presently being requested from ebm but will be pass word protected to first level to only enable programming of target temperature. Second level programming enables change to maximum speed rate of the motor and it is unwise for customers to alter manufacturer’s settings.
Edmonds’ new factory at 10 Stanton Rd. Seven Hills is proudly the first installation in the world to use the ecoPOWER 900 with integrated temperature sensor control. The resulting factory conditions have proved highly satisfactory for workers. Visitors are welcome to come and feel the impacts of the temperature programmed ecoPOWER 900 scheme.
